Life-long musicians, Brian and Shasta are firm believers in the power of rhythm and song to create community, connection and healing. Both of them have a background in classical music but left the world of orchestral performing decades ago. They have been leading singing and rhythm circles for the past 20 years and have made singing a core practice in their work as the RhythmKeepers.
Brian and Shasta are both certified TaKeTiNa (moving meditation) teachers, having completed the basic teacher training in 2008 and the advanced training in 2011. Shasta trained with Shivon Robinsong and Denis Donnelly of the Ubuntu Choir Network and graduated from their Community Choir Leadership Training in 2011.
Shasta and Brian lead the Island Village SongCircle, a non-performing weekly gathering of people who like to sing for themselves and each other. The Village SongCircle is a member group of the Ubuntu Choir Network. Brian leads the men’s Crossing Over choir, a group dedicated to offering song medicine at the bedside of anyone in need of ease or comfort. Shasta leads the women’s Bowen Threshold Singers based on the same principles as the Crossing Over choir.
They are delighted to have made the Kirtan connection with Soorya and Jack and welcome the opportunity to co-lead the monthly Kirtan at Bowen Island Yoga.
